Are you looking for a ski resort you can depend on?

Tignes is not only the highest ski resort in Europe, it also offers superb all year round skiing,endless summer activities and apres ski to die for!

Situated in a hanging valley this snow sure resort is top 3 rated for the most consistent conditions by travel and ski writers across the world.

Tignes shares the world famous Espace Killy ski area with its neighbour Val D'Isere but does not charge the same prices making it very attractive to families or those on a budget. The resort consists of five villages, three of them high up in the valley clustered around the frozen lake. These villages range from 2100-2300 metres and offer facilities to suit every taste.

There are restaurants catering for every nationality, ranging from cheap as chips to remortgage the house time. Tignes offers a huge variation of skiing with wide open green pistes for the beginner,a large number of nursery areas for young children and challenging blacks/off piste for the adrenaline junkies. The skiing scenery ranges from the wonderful views from the Grande Motte, mogul fields, tree runs, snow parks and endless off piste.

The accommodation in Tignes is never more than a short stroll away from the pistes and the villages are all linked by a free bus service which runs every 15 minutes throughout the winter. For the non skier there are increasingly more activities on offer to include paragliding, ice diving in the frozen lake, husky driving, horse riding and of course the old wallet bashing shopping.

The famous funicular railway offers all year round access to skiing on the Grande Motte glacier as well as catering for mountain bikers in the spring/summer who blast down the professionally designed course.In the Spring of 2006 a state of the art leisure complex was opened with a range of facilities to include swimming pools and water slides. Travelling with children


For those of you travelling with young kids Tignes offers a superb range of facilities. Childcare is available from various registered companies offering English speaking nannies. Check out www.tignesnannyservice.co.uk, and ask for Donna.

There are also loads of local expats offering services.As far as ski lessons are concerned the main ski schools are Ecole du Ski Francais . ESF has a club called Piou Piou for children aged from 4 to 12. They use the Marmottons village in Le Lac and Val Claret and have a hut for the children to rest and play games in while mummies and daddies ski or apres ski. Half days or full days are available as well as the option to have lunch.

Les Marmottons is a private organisation which offers skiing lessons and kindergarten for those aged 3 to 8 years. There is an office in Val Claret with the children being picked up from the admin office by skidoo or tractor and then taken to the Marmottons village. The lessons are in English and there are lots of inflatables for the kids to ski through as well as a slalom course and jump.Lessons include Marmotte for 3 year olds,Panda for 4 to 8 year olds and Petit Skieur for more advanced 4 to 8 year olds.
